This unit covers the competency required to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) to defibrillate a casualty in an emergency situation.
This unit includes advanced techniques for management of the administration of an AED in line with the requirements of the Australian Resuscitation Council and State and Territory regulatory bodies. The unit also involves working with personnel who are engaged in the resuscitation of the casualty.
Cardio pulmonary resuscitation is covered in the prerequisite unit PUAEME001B Provide emergency care.
Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a Statement of Attainment with the following units of competency:
- PUAOPE010C – Operate an automated external defibrillator in an emergency
Face to Face
The face to face course allows the candidates to cover the defibrillation content and assessments in approximately 2 hours.

All candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments and a theory exam. Please note: this course requires practical application of Resuscitation that will require kneeling on the floor; a range of practical scenarios. Candidates need to successfully complete all the practical components under the award conditions in order to achieve a Statement of Attainment.

You will be required to bring writing material for note taking. All other resources will be provided.
It is recommended that the course be refreshed every 12 months.
