This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a Statement of Attainment with the unit of competency HLTAID003 Provide First Aid and HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
You have two options to complete your HLTAID003 – Provide first aid course with Royal Life Saving.
Complete the Provide First Aid Workbook and attend the Assessment Session.
Complete the Provide First Aid Online (e-learning) and attend the Assessment Session.
Approximately 4 hours face to face assessment session.
All candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments. A candidate must perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant and an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
This course also requires practical application of Resuscitation and other practical scenarios that will require kneeling on the floor.
In order to achieve a Statement of Attainment, candidates must successfully complete the practical components under the award conditions.
A multiple choice theory assessment will also be required to be completed.
Resources and Equipment
You’ll be sent the learning resources prior to the course, including your own manikin and bandage pack that you’ll be required to practice with and bring to the assessment session. You will be required to bring writing material for note taking.
It is essential that the pre learning is completed prior to the face to face assessment session.

The Provide First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years and the Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation unit is valid for 12 months in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Guidelines. You are required to complete one of the above delivery modes to renew your first aid accreditation.
