An approved Royal Life Saving NSW ‘Resuscitation Facilitator’ is able to instruct and assess the components of the Royal Life Saving Resuscitation award strands.
The Resuscitation award strand is designed for people not wishing to be involved in the aquatic awards, but who want to learn resuscitation and emergency care skills for use in land-based emergencies.
The Resuscitation strand involves the following awards:
Resuscitation Awareness Award
This award aims to provide practical experience in CPR with basic content, and can be taught to children at Primary School ages. A Resuscitation Report form must be submitted to RLSNSW Head Office, along with appropriate payment in order for Awards to be recognised, and certificates to be distributed.
Resuscitation Award
The Aim of this award is to provide the practical experience in CPR. These skills can be taught to individuals or groups, from the age of 12 years. The Resuscitation Award can be delivered through a number of pathways:
While a Resuscitation Award is sufficient for compliance training purposes in many industries across NSW, some industries will require their staff to be equipped with the Nationally Accredited HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation unit of competency, which cannot be issued by a Royal Life Saving NSW Facilitator.

As well as meeting the criteria above, a Resuscitation Facilitator will need to have the required knowledge to deliver a Resuscitation course, compliant with the standards of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).
To finalise the application process, appropriate payment is to be made, and the Resuscitation Facilitator Workbook must be completed and submitted to Royal Life Saving NSW. In order to complete the workbook, access to the Royal Life Saving Swimming and Lifesaving Manual is essential. If you do not have access to a Swimming and Lifesaving Manual, they can be selected as an additional item at the time of registration payment. Alternatively, they are available for purchase at the Royal Life Saving Shop.
Approved Facilitator status is to be renewed annually by paying an annual fee. A Resuscitation Award, or higher must be maintained in order for a Facilitator’s status to remain as valid. A Working with Children Check must also remain valid.
